Break-In Chart

4-Stroke Outboards
Four-stroke MAPI outboards DO NOT come with engine oil already installed. You must add engine oil before attempting to start your four-stroke outboard for the first time. Failure to do so will result in extensive damage to your outboard. Use only new clean gasoline which has been stored in clean containers and is not contaminated with water or foreign material.

Engine oil:
Recommended engine oil : 4-Stroke outboard motor oil SAE 10W30 & SAE 10W40

WARNING:
Do not start the engine when the oil level is low. Serious damage might occur.
Always check the oil level before starting the engine.

CAUTION:
All 4-stroke engines are shipped from the factory without engine oil.
Recommended break-in schedule will prolong the life of your new outboard and ensure optimum performance. RPM’s should be varied throughout the break-in period without exceeding the maximum RPM limits as shown. We recommend that break-in be performed on the boat.

2.6 thru & 25hp (4-Stroke) Throttle Position Max. RPMs
1-10 min Idle
10 min-2 hrs Less than 1/2 throttle Approx. 3000rpm max
2-3 hrs Less than 3/4 throttle Full throttle run allowed for 1 min every 10 min
3-10 hrs Up to 3/4 throttle Approx. 4000 rpm max with Full throttle run allowed for 2 min every 10 min
After 10 hrs Full throttle available

MAPI outboard’s are equipped with an Engine Oil Warning Lamp. When the warning lamp is off, it indicates that sufficient oil pressure is present. If the warning lamp is on (red light is on) or blinking on and off, immediately shut down your outboard and check the oil level. Replenish as needed. Never run your outboard if the warning lamp is on or blinking on/off.

MAPI Four Stroke Oil and Capacity Information
Four-stroke outboards use 10W-30 or 10W-40 four-stroke motor oil.

MODEL/HP OIL CAPACITY
2.6hp .35L / .091 gal
4hp and 5hp .5L / .338 gal
6hp, 8hp and 9.8hp .8L / .20 gal
9.9hp and 15hp 1L / .26 gal
20hp and 25hp 1.7L / .44 gal

Use of synthetic oil is not recommended in 4-stroke outboard engines. Outboards use raw water cooling systems and using synthetic oil may prevent the engine from reaching sufficient operating temperature.

NOTE: With four-stroke outboards, oil is added directly to the engine crankcase. Four-stroke outboards use straight gasoline in the fuel tank (no oil mix). See your owner’s manual for detailed information on how to fill and change engine oil.

Fuel Consumption Data
MAPI OUTBOARDS have provided the chart below to help you determine what type of fuel consumption you might expect. Please note that figures shown are approximate only.

There are a number of factors that can affect the amount of fuel an outboard consumes. Therefore, the figures listed below may vary from what you will obtain in your application. Factors such as weight, hull shape, hull condition, water conditions, etc. can significantly impact fuel consumption.

The charts below show the approximate fuel consumption per hour at WOT (wide open throttle).
